Università Iuav di Venezia

Founded in 1926 as the Scuola superiore di architettura di Venezia, Università Iuav di Venezia is today a small public university with a strong experimental vocation. The first in Italy to introduce design studios, it combines theoretical education in the humanities with intensive laboratory- based work focused on practice and experimentation.

A national and international reference point for architectural and urban culture, Università Iuav di Venezia has hosted over time major figures in design and architecture such as Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, Carlo Scarpa, and Aldo Rossi. Its identity has also been consolidated in the fields of Design, Fashion, Theatre, and the Arts.

The University launched the first PhD programme in design-related disciplines in Italy and is at the forefront of research on sustainability, climate change, ecological transition, and post-disaster reconstruction, in dialogue with Venice as a living laboratory of urban innovation.
